MAA Scholarship Recipients

The Morada Area Association’s scholarship program continues in its seventh year to recognize the achievements of Morada students. These applicants’ not only met the requirements but surpassed them!

This year we had 7 outstanding students.

Nathaniel Chien grew up in Morada, and has a great appreciation for his community, his education and his opportunities. Nathaniel will graduate from Lincoln High School, and plans to attend Stanford University Fall 2018, where he will major in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering and minor in Biological Science.

Nathaniel has been the recipient of numerous academic awards and scores, including the Davidson Young Scholar Ambassador Program. Other Awards/Recognition were the Congressional Award Gold Medalist, Coco-Cola Scholar finalist, California State Legislature, 2017 Volunteer of the Year, and the Nelson Zane Award. His Science Related activities have included research in the Lab of Professor Jerry Tsai at UOP, awards from the science fair 2016 and 2017, math tutoring, and numerous summer courses, including Computer Science at Skidmore Campus, New York and Fast-paced Biology at Loyola Marymount Campus, California.

Continuing Nathaniel’s very impressive background, his community service/social justice activities are the fact he is the Founder and President of Change…One Heartbeat at a Time (COHAAT), a public organization who mission is to provide donated pacemakers and defibrillators to patients who would otherwise not have the means to afford them. He also has been a computer volunteer at the Philippine Plaza, Stockton, and a Link Crew Leader.

Another activity he is passionate about is music, the saxophone. Nathaniel has been in the Lincoln High School Marching Band 4 years, the Wind Ensemble 3 years, the San Joaquin County Honor Band 6 years, California All-Northern Honor Band 2 years, and even had the opportunity to play Carnegie Hall in the Wind Ensemble in Spring 2016

Nathaniel is a phenomenal student but is deserving of praise beyond the ordinary - he provides kindness, generosity, a capability for academic ability without question, but he also has an awareness of other people's needs. He is a giving person. He listens to others, is open-minded, and participates in his community at the high school level, as well as within his city environment. Congratulations Nathaniel!
